Keep Your Head Down.

Hi fellow golfers,

This is probably the most common phrase used by fellow golfers and some instructors to new or high handicap golfers. It is obviously meant as helpful advice but will not help at all in developing a good golf swing.

Why do i say this is wrong?

Well, for the most part if you ‘keep your head down’ the top of the spine will be curved which may cause injury to your neck. The lowering of the head will drop the chin down towards the upper chest which causes tension and prevents a full body turn during the backswing. This leads to lack of power build up in the backswing, which is sometimes referred to as coil. It is highly likely that this will also lead to the downswing starting from an open position and will cause a hit from the top and an over the top movement. This means slice to you and me buddy.

So what should you do?

Keep your chin up and drop your eyes to the ball.

But don’t be tempted to look where your ball is going before you have hit it!! That is the main reason probably why the ‘Keep your head down’ comment is made. Keep your eyes on the ball until after impact.

Hit em’ straight.
