Also, if you notice here, the club itself is past parallel (only slightly), but the arms don't have that "overswung" appearance; they're still well to the right of the body. The club's position past parallel is due to an arm-shaft angle that is considerably more acute than the norm, probably because of Hogan's open left wrist position at the top. You'll notice, though, that his arms don't outrun his turn on the way back--that is, they don't keep going once the turn has stopped.

Pretty sure the vid was made around '64 (when they did the Shell's Wonderful World shoot at Champions), when Ben was about 52 or so.

Ben was very flexible, and he wasn't much past parallel, certainly not in a way that disconnected his arms from his turn. Also, if you'll look at some youtube vids of him with irons, you'll see just how compact he was with the other clubs.

Now, _earlier_ in his career, he was way past parallel, and it hurt him--very much uncontrolled.

Watching Hogan's swing is akin to looking at a work by Rembrandt: You're witnessing a true display of beauty and brilliance.

He does this to increase the lag helping to build more pressure resulting in more clubhead speed. The key here is that he does not lose the pressure between the elbows which most amateurs do and he maintains pressure in the triceps which results in the hips being able to control the upper body.Nearly all amateurs control the swing with the upper body.Read his book he states "A strongman could'nt pull his upper arms off his chest ".

He brings it past parallel but he doesnt lose control. Bringing it past parallel isnt an issue if the left arm remains firm and the shoulders turn past 90 degree. But yes, for most people who are not as supple going past parallel is a nono

Just read Hogan's biography:he really was the Tiger Woods of his day. Admired the time he spent on "Misery Hill."
It's great to see his swing on here. I've been "coming over the top" a lot on the course and getting into all sorts of trouble. Currently working on bumping that left hip forward just before the top of the backswing. As soon as I do that, ball striking instantly improves.
Still missing left but nearly not as bad. Thanks for posting!
